A 1,000 signature petition was heard at a meeting at the Civic Centre on 11th August. It was chaired by Cllr Bianco.
In a statement on behalf of the petitioners Gay Brown presented a strong case for keeping the pool open. There was almost unanimous support from the audience.
Concerns were voiced that the Council had effectively torpedoed the consultation process and any properly informed debate by failing to answer any of the questions that had been put to them in advance. It was therefore proposed that the meeting be adjourned until answers had been received.
Cllr Bianco refused to to do this and decided that the closure would go ahead regardless.
A formal complaint has subsequently been made to the Council’s Standards Committee about the inconsiderate way in which Cllr Bianco conducted the meeting.
